The Zohar Circle - East Bay
Lehrhaus Zohar Circle - continues for a fourth year under the leadership of Professor Daniel C. Matt and utilizing his epic translation and annotation: The Zohar: Pritzker Edition. We will discuss selections from Volume 1 of this groundbreaking work.
Matt describes the Zohar as "a challenge to the normal workings of consciousness [that] dares one to examine one's assumptions about tradition, God, and self."
In his introduction to Volume 1 of The Zohar: Pritzker Edition, Dr. Arthur Green writes, “The Zohar is the great medieval Jewish compendium of mysticism, myth, and esoteric teaching. It may be considered the highest expression of Jewish literary imagination in the Middle Ages. Surely it is one of the most important bodies of religious text of all times and places.”
Students should purchase their own copy of The Zohar: Pritzker Edition, Volume 1 prior to the first session. Professor Matt will also have copies available at the first session.
If you are new to the study of Zohar, we recommend that you participate in our A Special Morning with the Talmud and the Zohar introductory session. Sunday September 16, 10:00 at the Jewish Community Library in San Francisco. This program is free, however, please register in advance so that we can plan accordingly.
