The Bay Area Community Talmud Circle - Los Gatos

This course was offered in Fall, 2016.

The Bay Area Community Talmud Circle is a growing, dynamic, and welcoming community of adult students engaged in modern Talmud study and active conversation. This unique project is a collaboration of Lehrhaus Judaica and The Aleph Society of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, hailed by TIME magazine as a "once-in-a-millennium scholar."

Steinsaltz writes: “The Talmud is a central pillar of Jewish knowledge. It is not only important in and of itself, but it is organically connected to just about everything in the realm of Jewish knowledge, from the practical, everyday halakha to exciting and dizzying mystical notions.”

While the majority of participants are continuing students, anyone may join. Newcomers to Talmud study should participate in “A Taste of Talmud,” please consult the print and online catalogs for locations, dates, and times.

Bay Area Community Talmud Circle students study with the Koren Talmud Bavli, Berakhot, available in various print sizes and in digital editions.

Rabbi Jennifer Clayman

Rabbi Jennifer ClaymanJennifer Clayman joins the Lehrhaus faculty this year for Philosophy Circle: Buber. She first encountered Buber as a religion student in college, where I and Thou and the works of other modern Jewish thinkers transformed her relationship with Judaism. In rabbinical school she developed a deep interest in teaching Jewish adults and wrote her thesis on the spirituality of adult Jewish learning. A spiritual seeker herself, and a lifelong outdoorsperson, she recently completed the Torah Trek Guides Track, a program focused on Jewish spiritual practice in nature. The former rabbi/educator at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, Jennifer came to the Bay Area in 2008, and she lives on the Peninsula with her family.
