Advanced Biblical Hebrew 3: Faith in the Face of Despair - Lamentations (Winter)
Lamentations marks the dividing line between the end of Israelite religion and the beginning of Judaism: the destruction of Solomon’s Jerusalem Temple in 586 BCE. Filled with eloquent despair, it also affirms an enduring belief in redemption and restoration, the very spirit that has sustained the Jewish People for millennia. Our course will explore the text in depth, using Bibleworks 9 software with the original Hebrew, Septuagint, and Vulgate texts displayed on a large screen along with the class translation. We’ll also examine its ancient poetic Mesopotamian antecedents and delve into the archaeological evidence relating to the Temple’s destruction.
Please Note: The first session takes place at Lehrhaus Judaica. All subsequent sessions take place at Netivot Shalom.
