Adventurers: Pioneer Jews in the Gold Rush

This course is no longer offered.

Sue and Felix Warburg will share their extensive research into the history and personalities of the Jewish pioneers who settled in Northern California in the 1840s and 1850s. Who were they, and what did they plan to do when they reached California's shores? What were the conditions in their home countries that led them to flee? What was their impact in the opening of the West, and on San Francisco's present day Jewish community?
